A sound concept for the future

With the FLEXFORMER, KURTH + HEUSER presents an innovative line of machinery for edge processing of cylindrical hollow sheet metal parts. This line features fully flexible programming of all axes for the forming processes. The freely programmable, servo-hydraulic vertical adjustment of workpiece fixtures and clamps allows flexible and effective usage of the FLEXFORMER actuators. These are highly dynamic and ensure high quality and repeat accuracy even during demanding operations. In contrast to conventional machine concepts, FLEXFORMER machines allow multiple processes to be performed without changing the fixture.

Highlights

  1. Servo-hydraulic or servo-electric axes: robust and accurate
  2. Processing using up to five actuators
  3. 80 % less setup time and setup errors
  4. Flexible programming
  5. Perfect repeat accuracy
  6. Ring production from tubes

The product line

The FLEXFORMER line is a modular system consisting of basic machines using different actuators selected according to workpiece dimensions, materials and processing tasks. The most diverse forming operations are executed in a single fixture. The servo-hydraulic clamping device allows the series production of, e.g., flange rings from a single tube with only very little effort.

  • Does the Flexformer require a foundation?

No, Flexformer machines do not require a foundation. The generously sized table top is bolted to the sturdy machine base frame. The Flexformer is equipped with adjustable machine feet for installation and alignment on a standard industrial floor.

  • Does K+H also offer systems for component handling?

K+H assists in selecting the right handling system. The Flexformer machine can be optionally equipped with a swiveling hold-down gantry to enable the handling of large and heavy workpieces using a crane.

  • Is the Flexformer available used?

Used Flexformer machines are very rarely available. Thanks to its high degree of flexibility, the Flexformer can also be used for new tasks. As a result, owners rarely, if ever, sell their machines. To ensure quick delivery, we always keep a Flexformer machine in stock.

  • Is there a punching function?

Various punching units are available for the Flexformer. A turret allows for punching up to four different hole diameters in a single setup.

  • In which sizes is the Flexformer available?

The workpiece diameter (e.g., pipe) for the Flexformer ranges from 60 to 3.000 mm. Within this range, there are machine sizes such as 200–800 mm. Each Flexformer machine is custom-designed to meet specific customer requirements—please feel free to contact us.

  • In which color is the Flexformer available?

As a customer, you are free to choose any color from the RAL color spectrum (except for moving parts, for which a high-visibility color must be selected).

  • Is the Flexformer energy-efficient?

The Flexformer utilizes state-of-the-art servo-hydraulic and servo-electric axes. The control system intelligently activates high drive power only when it is actually needed. Similarly, all drives enter standby mode as soon as they are no longer in use. This ensures maximum energy efficiency.

  • Is the Flexformer modularly configurable?

Like all K+H sheet metal working machines, the Flexformer features a modular design. Modules for equipping the Flexformer can be selected from an extensive catalog. Retrofitting at a later date is also possible. This makes the Flexformer a customized and future-proof investment.

  • Can the Flexformer also trim / edge-trim parts?

Yes, the Flexformer can trim both horizontally and vertically. An automatic waste removal system is also available if needed (required for automated processes).

  • Can the Flexformer produce bellmouths?

YES. The Flexformer is also available in a version designed for manufacturing bellmouths.

  • Can a Flexformer-type machine be automated?

Flexformer machines can be easily automated. Profinet/Profisafe interfaces are standard, making it easy to connect to a higher-level line control system, for example. Automatic removal of trimming waste is also available upon request. In addition to stand-alone machines, K+H offers complete systems. K+H provides a turnkey solution for your application.

  • When was the Flexformer developed?

The first Flexformer machine was developed and built between 2006 and 2008. Naturally, the Flexformer has undergone continuous development since then, ensuring that its design and all components remain at the cutting edge of technology.

  • What is the maximum workpiece diameter?

Maximum diameter of workpiece is 3.000mm

  • What is the minimum workpiece diameter?

Minimum diameter of workpiece is 60mm

  • What is the maximum workpiece height?

Max. height of workpiece is 2.000mm

  • How much does a Flexformer cost?

Due to the high degree of modularity and the customizations involved, we do not provide general pricing information. Please feel free to contact us. We will be happy to provide you with a quote or give you a BUDGET price.

  • Which purchased-part brands are used?

Only components from industry-leading manufacturers (e.g., Siemens, SEW, FESTO) are used in the Flexformer.

  • What is the delivery time for a Flexformer?

Depending on the configuration and level of customization: 6–13 months.

  • What is the maximum wall thickness?

Max. thickness of workpiece is 12mm

  • How many Flexformers are in operation?

A total of 94 Flexformer machines are currently in successful use by our customers worldwide (as of April 2026).

  • What does the name Flexformer stand for?
What does the name Flexformer stand for?

The name refers to a highly versatile member of the K+H machine family designed for machining hollow sheet metal parts. To provide the operator with complete flexibility, the machine is equipped with an innovative tabular sequence programming system. Combined with servo-controlled axes, this ensures full flexibility, short setup times, minimized setup errors, and high dynamic performance.
